Cyanogen CEO refutes 'pivoting to apps' reports, says "we are an OS company"

Just days after there were reports that alternative Android OS developer Cyanogen has laid off about a fifth of its workforce and is planning to make a shift towards app development, CEO Kirt McMaster has refuted the reports, especially the app development part.

Here's what he said in a tweet:

As for lay offs, he confirmed the news this past weekend, although there was no word on the number of employees that have been let go.

Co-founder Steve Kondik also tried to clear the air. "CyanogenMod isn’t going anywhere, nor has Cyanogen Inc. discontinued it’s efforts towards the goal of bringing it to a larger audience," he said in a blog post.

"Cyanogen Inc (including myself) will still be sponsoring the project and will continue to have an active role in it’s development. Contrary to popular belief, we are not 'pivoting to apps' nor are we shelving CM," he added.
